Paul Harmer IEng MEI MIET FCIPHE has joined the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE) as a Technical Director. He will be working on some exciting new initiatives to support the technical development of the Institute.

​Since Paul’s career began 22 years ago as a heating apprentice, he has worked around the world on various high value engineering projects within the heating, cooling and plumbing industry. Through this, he has gained a wealth of experience covering development and innovation of software, product design, building services design and manufacturing.
 
Paul has worked in Germany, in conjunction with various European manufacturers, on the innovation and development of renewable technologies. Following on from this, he worked for Reliance Worldwide in the UK, Canada and Australia, setting up the technical infrastructure for their warm water underfloor heating range of products.


​He went on to become Head of Engineering for the German building services software and design company Willms GMbH in the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Canada. He has spearheaded the development and innovation of the software over the last 10 years.
 
Presently, Paul is carrying out extensive research and development into emerging technologies within his own company, Inventive Concept Ltd. He has invented and created various intellectual property and setup manufacturing for a number of products for the plumbing and heating industry. He has a strong passion and drive for the future of UK manufacturing.
​“As the CIPHE Technical Director, I would like to give something back to the industry and help engage the younger generation to ensure the industry can flourish in the future. 
 
“I would also like to raise the profile of plumbing and heating engineers by working with local colleges and universities to create qualifications leading up to MSc and Chartered status with the Engineering Council. I feel that plumbing and heating engineers should be proud to be a professional.”
​Paul is a keen footballer and after a short spell playing full-time football in America, he spent the majority of his years playing semi professional football in the England leagues. He is currently undergoing assessment to be a Chartered Engineer.
